Children and young people

Providing the best start in life requires children and young people and their families and carers to be able to access support at the earliest opportunity, with an appropriately skilled workforce that can prevent, improve and enhance children’s health and wellbeing.

Our work in this area recognises that children’s health is not a single organisation’s responsibility. Health services must work with education and social care, voluntary and community services as well as other statutory providers to support children and young people.

We have three main areas of focus:

  • Sustainability and resilience of services for children and young people, addressing waiting times and associated issues of demand and capacity
  • Common pathways to aid effective response with the opportunity for improving choice
  • Addressing health inequalities to give all children the best start in life.
